Mix together in a square baking dish or other shallow vessel the eggs, milk, vanilla, and sugar.
Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Melt 1/2 tbsp butter in the preheated pan. Meanwhile, dip bread slices in the royale on both sides. Let excess drip off. Cook 2 slices at a time until golden brown and oh so delicious. Continue adding butter to pan as needed for lubrication.
